Customer Challenge
A major U.S. defense prime needed a next-generation onboard diagnostics to serve as the official maintenance software baseline for a widely deployed tactical airlift platform across U.S. Government and international fleets. The customer required a single, modern solution that could support both new aircraft and major block-upgrade programs, improve maintenance insight, and reduce aircraft-on-ground (AOG) times. Because the capability is critical to national security, the larger follow-on effort operates under a DX-A1 DPAS rating, raising the bar for reliability, traceability, and disciplined delivery.
Lynx Solution & Capabilities
Lynx supported the design and development of the Next Generation Diagnostics (NGD) system from early prototyping through the current Engineering Test Build (ETB) phase, establishing a strong, reliable partnership with the platform's sustainment organization. NGD delivers capability across two domains. In flight, it provides real-time structural health monitoring, exceedance calculations, crew-alerting event tracking, and in-flight fault isolation and analysis. On the ground, it supports defensive systems testing, avionics verification, fuel system calibration, circuit breaker control, engine maintenance, and software loading.
Planned 2026 - 2027 engineering focuses on modernization and scalability: migration to a .NET Core environment, enhanced flight data recording, web-based user interfaces, expanded onboard processing, open API development for third-party integration, and alignment with the prime's broader digital sustainment platform to ensure interoperability across evolving aerospace systems.

Customer Value & Outcomes
NGD is now established as the official baseline for all future aircraft maintenance software across the customer's fleets, making it a strategic solution for both new and block-upgrade programs. Lynx's proven performance and dependable partnership drove an expansion in scope and operational priority which leads directly to a much larger, multi-year, DX-A1-rated effort. The system improves operational insight, streamlines maintenance, reduces AOG times, and enhances overall platform reliability, positioning NGD as a long-term, scalable maintenance solution.
