Embracing Innovation, Collaboration, & Growth with Acquisition of Timesys

I joined Lynx in June 2022 as a result of the acquisition of Lynx by OceanSound Partners. One of my first priorities was a collaborative effort involving the entire leadership team to define and align around an overall company vision and strategy.

We agreed that we are in a “software-defined-anything” world where trusted and committed partners empower customers toiStock-1391066372 overcome the status quo and innovate at the Edge. We needed to innovate at customers' speed to counter emerging threats and hazards in a dynamic, unpredictable world. Our mission is to improve the economics of our customers and ecosystem partners to design, develop, deploy, and service high-assurance edge applications.

From my broad discussions with diverse customers in the aerospace and defense sector, it is clear that they are wrestling with huge challenges in terms of development timelines, costs, and program risk in the face of spiraling system complexity. The growth in complexity is driven by the desire to include new functionality such as artificial intelligence, deterministic system-to-system communication, information sharing and decision making, and increased resiliency to cyberattacks. The investor support that the OceanSound acquisition provides offers our leadership team three different paths to deliver more value to this industry, namely:

  • Make: Our work to disaggregate LYNX MOSA.ic into modular elements and deliver capabilities in a form that aligns with our customers' CI/CD flows is one example of thislynxtimesys2
  • Partner: Recent examples are the engagement with RunSafe Security to increase the immunity of deployed systems to cyberattack and our partnership with Percepio which provides the system observability functionality needed to create highly complex, certifiable systems that harness modern multicore processors
  • Buy: Complete technology and teams that we feel can accelerate the delivery of industry-leading capabilities

welcome, timesys!

I am thrilled to welcome the entirety of the Timesys team into the Lynx family. I have been really impressed with the capabilities of the technology and, as important, if not more, of the openness and transparency of the team during the due diligence process.

Linux has been broadly adopted across a diverse set of markets. A comprehensive set of our customers are using this as their development environment of choice. Our early (and continued) commitment to industry standards has customers telling us we provide the easiest path to migrate software from Linux to a real-time operating system (RTOS). We see a growing interest for Linux to be deployed in military and aerospace applications as one piece of the puzzle to accelerate the deployment of next-generation airborne, ground, and below-the-waterline crewed and autonomous systems.

Effectively, the desire is to harness proven elements from IT infrastructure without compromising the safety and security levels of their systems. Achieving that, coupled with deployment cycles measured in decades and increasing government legislation to prove systems are patched to address the latest known vulnerabilities, is not for the faint of heart. Customers need a software bill of materials (SBOM), and tools that can track common vulnerabilities and exposures (CVE) and provide a path to address those issues with software updates. They are increasingly concerned about protecting their intellectual property from rival nations looking to challenge the USA. Today, Lynx has an industry leadership position in delivering software platform technology, LYNX MOSA.ic, for mission-critical systems, particularly those associated with avionics. The acquisition of Timesys technology and its team adds these capabilities for us to provide an operational solution to our customers that is valid for the entire lifecycle of their products.
