Combination of Linux, POSIX and CORBA standards eases development of scalable, highly available embedded applications
SAN JOSÉ, CA (Embedded Systems Conference)—Sept 25, 2000—LynuxWorks™, Inc. a leader in real-time operating systems and embedded Linux, and Highlander Engineering, Inc., the leading supplier of middleware for connecting intelligent devices, announced today that Highlander has integrated its VisiBroker for Embedded Systems Real-Time Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA®) compliant environment for developing distributed applications with the LynuxWorks Linux®- and POSIX®-compatible LynxOS® Real-Time Operating System (RTOS). The combination of CORBA, Linux and POSIX provides embedded system developers with familiar, standard interfaces for creating highly available applications that can transparently scale from one to thousands of processors, irrespective of the underlying network topology.
Inder Singh, CEO and Chairman of LynuxWorks, said: "Both LynuxWorks and Highlander are leaders in providing open standards solutions to embedded system developers. By bringing together familiar RTOS programming interfaces-Linux and POSIX-with the leading multi-vendor standard for developing distributed applications-real-time ORBs-we can provide our customers an integrated distributed, High Availability solution offering outstanding interoperability and code re-usability."
"Working with LynuxWorks was an obvious choice for us," commented Ken Black, President of Highlander. "We share a common commitment to standards and focus on the requirements of mission critical applications such as telecommunications, medical and defense equipment. That five companies asked to be Beta test sites for VisiBroker for LynxOS before we had made any public announcement of our partnership is clear evidence of the synergies between our technologies and markets."
