SAN JOSÉ, Calif.—June 30, 1998—Lynx Real-Time Systems, Inc., a leader in embedded software solutions, announced that Motorola, Inc., one of the world's leading providers of wireless communications, semiconductors and advanced electronic systems has executed an agreement to invest in their company.

This investment is intended to accelerate the development of the Lynx industry-leading real-time operating system (RTOS) technology which is built on a scalable, standards-based architecture. The technology will enable Motorola and others in communications-focused industries to build complex, highly reliable, intelligent systems for their leading-edge products. One of the key technologies accelerated by this investment is high availability platforms, such as cellular infrastructure equipment, and other applications.

Motorola Senior Vice President and Chief Strategy Staff Officer, Bob Bigony said, "Motorola believes this is a strategic investment because we consider the Lynx technology to be valuable for our next generation products."

Long-term relationship

In recent years, Motorola has selected the Lynx embedded software platform for several products in its rapidly expanding communications business. These projects standardized on LynxOS, the Lynx real-time product, because of its stability, high reliability, scalability, openness and deterministic performance, and its robust support for large complex applications.

LynxOS, the Lynx Real-Time Systems flagship OS, has from its inception supported the popular 32-bit microprocessor produced by Motorola Semiconductor Products Sector (SPS), including members of the popular embedded "workhorse" 68K family, the high performance PowerPC family of RISC processors, and most recently the high integration PowerQUICC devices (MPC8xx) for communications and portable device applications.

The same Motorola processors, in addition to finding their way into a variety of proprietary embedded applications, are also featured in board- and system-level platforms host an array of mission critical applications, including those in communications infrastructure, data acquisition, industrial control and military/aerospace.
