The Motorola MVME5500 with powerful 1 GHz MPC7455 PowerPC® processor can deliver outstanding processing power and I/O flexibility for applications including motion control, medical imaging, simulators, command and control, radar, guidance systems and sonar. The high-performance AltiVec™ coprocessor on the MPC7455 is ideal for data-intensive applications.

With up to 512Mb on-board ECC SDRAM and an additional 512Mb memory via a mezzanine module, this VME single-board computer also features 40Mb of on-board Flash memory. Extensive I/O capability, accessed via the front panel, includes a Gigabit Ethernet interface, a 10/100BaseTX Ethernet interface and two serial ports. Two 33/66 MHz PMC sites enable the addition of industry standard modules to create an application-specific computing subsystem.

The MVME5500 can provide a technology boost and performance increase for your application while preserving your existing investment in VMEbus infrastructure—it is backwards-compatible with MVME712 and MVME761 I/O from previous generations. This is a key step in Motorola's VME renaissance, which aims to improve performance while maintaining backwards-compatibility for equipment manufacturers using VMEbus architectures.
